My friend Jin and her father have owned a small glass studio for over 15 years. Jin grew up watching her father shape glass into whimsical toys just for her. Over time, what began as a craft became a way of life. Together, they built a studio rooted in passion, patience, and the poetry of molten glass.
As a child, I was captivated by the Pokémon anime. One episode, "The Crystal Onix," left a lasting impression on me. In this story, Ash and his friends travel to Sunburst Island, renowned for its glassblowing artisans, to help a young glassmaker named Mateo find the legendary Crystal Onix for inspiration. Mateo's Charmeleon assists in crafting glass artworks, using its flame to shape the molten material. This episode planted a seed in my heart—a dream to learn the art of glassblowing. In 2023, I began my journey into glassmaking, apprenticing under Jin and her father. Today, I am proud to create vibrant, handcrafted glass pieces here in South Africa, bringing my childhood dream to life.
